Oana Cobeanu

Branch Coordinator - Cluj

My long-term relationship with the role of psychotherapist began a long time ago, back when I didn't know how to define my future that way, but I listened to people with interest and fascination, saw the world through their eyes, sought answers and solutions, trying to understand as much as possible about what drives them. It took several years, studies, training, therapeutic experience, and personal obstacles to turn this concern inward and focus on myself, thus moving forward into a new stage, both personally and professionally. This moment will always be associated with the deepening of Schema Therapy, under the guidance of two exceptional mentors, Thomas Dowd and David Edwards, alongside a harmonious community of colleagues and therapists.

The experience gained in this context has allowed me to learn to work therapeutically at a deeper level, to have more confidence in my ability to be an authentic therapist, and to integrate the experience and knowledge accumulated over the years into a flexible framework. My long-term relationship with the role of psychotherapist has truly entered a new stage.

However, the beginnings always remain relevant. I was born in Galați and I have a special affection for the places where I grew up. Although I believe that I have strong roots, I love travel the most, closely followed by books. My family provides the context for all of these, and without them, no journey would be complete. I started my university studies in Iași, continued in Cluj-Napoca (where I currently practice at Clinica Nouă), and I have constantly sought to connect with what is happening outside my professional world. That's how my collaborations with Thomas Dowd and later with David Edwards began, as well as the series of Schema Therapy events organized in Cluj within my beloved project, Holo. Naturally, this led to my collaboration with the Romanian Institute of Schema Therapy, of which I am delighted to be a part today. I have always believed in communities and teamwork, and the place I am in today shows me that we can grow together.

My main concerns have been focused for several years on specializing in child and adolescent psychotherapy, alongside continuous development in individual therapy for adults. Last but not least, I always remain anchored in my first professional passion, psychotherapy in a medical context. I strongly believe in the necessity of supervision and ongoing professional development, and I try to live according to my beliefs as much as possible. I am constantly enthusiastic about teaching and have the joy of working with master's students in Public and Clinical Health Psychology in Cluj.

Looking back, I can say that today I am where I wished to be and where I believe I can make a positive impact, for and with people.
